| The
Sleep Series is an extension
of the Piercings Series.
Like many of those works, the pillows are not intended to be aggressive
but a means of protection.
While most of my works are meant to be viewed but not touched,
I designed the four-pillow piece, titled Sleep
(Self-Portrait),
to be tossed and turned by the viewer, who can then create a body
or an exquisite corpse.
I
think of the more dangerous works, such as Bear
and Bristle,
as
beautiful pillows able to be wielded as weapons for self-defense.
Force
and Eddy
explore the decision-making process.
Mass
and Grill
attempt to order chaos.
Where
Divine
is beautiful and vulnerable, Sink
is provocative
and
menacing.
Both
Probe
and Beat
relate the physical to the emotional.
In
my desire to further incorporate the viewer into the work, some
of the pillows contain mirrors, allowing people to become participants
in the piece. |
